Nanjing Baima Museum | Nanjing, China

The 1 km2 (100 hectare) site in Baima Town is a planned and designed sustainable town museum as a model for rural villages in China. The plan creates three different experiences for visitors due to the existing rural character and to meet the local government’s request: Chinese cultural living, Buddhist religion, and natural & agriculture experience.

Respecting the rural fabric system of building layout, organic farm arrangement, water system, and variation of landform, Landworks Studio creates a public north-south green corridor and ring path in order to connect and reactive surrounding villages for environmentally friendly tourism.

The museum area has divided into three parcels which are the Chinese Museum Village, the Commercial Village, and the Buddha Village. With the function of cultural education, historical craft experience, and religion moral practice, tourists have multiple ways to enjoy the park via water tours, bus tours, and biking. Scheduled seasonal events, private gatherings, and art performances will also occur.
