Firm Profile

Landworks Studio, Inc. is a design-driven landscape architecture collaborative established in 1996 by Michael Blier. Our staff primarily includes experienced landscape architects, though we also share interdisciplinary backgrounds in design, arts, architecture, forestry, and placemaking. We take great pride in the individual accomplishment of our team and the way this informs our collaborative approach.

Our work often focuses on the revitalization of ecologically distressed sites, often in urban or semi-urban environments. We believe that by exploring the complexities of ecological systems, cultural sustainability, material tectonics, and program, we can produce experiential and visually compelling landscape solutions. Our work spans all scales, from small pocket-parks to city-wide framework plans and mid-sized residential communities. We lead projects and work within teams of architects, urban planners, engineers, and communities. Frequent input from our clients, allied design professionals, and the community is a critical component of our design process.

Fundamental to our design process is the need to thoroughly test the formal, technical, and environmental appropriateness of each idea in order to ensure that the ultimate proposal is responsive to the nature of its context and the scale of inhabitation. We make extensive use of models, carefully constructed perspective photomontages, and computer models to evaluate every level of detail. We believe that these iterative investigations make for fast and accurate feedback, whether we are weighing different schematic ideas or construction details.

Landworks Studio has received numerous awards including the ASLA Design Excellence Award for the Court Square Press Building. Founding Principal, Michael Blier, was inducted as an ASLA Fellow in 2017.
