To protect the local mill heritage and regenerate the historic canal of the twin cities of Lewiston-Auburn, Landworks Studio prepared a master plan and developed concepts for selected sites that would merge the powerful Androscoggin River and the canal system that was, at the time it was built, a formidable engineering project aimed at directing the flow of the river into straight water ways along the mill sites. Landworks Studio aimed to connect the private and public, bring elements of commerce and recreation, and tell the story of the canals and local immigration that shaped the twin cities.
