Landworks Studio and the City of Salem’s Department of Planning & Community Development have secured funding to advance design updates for Lappin Park, following positive feedback from the City’s Design Review Board and Redevelopment Authority.
The proposed improvements reflect input gathered through in-park conversations and online surveys. Key updates include enhanced ADA access to adjacent storefronts, improved circulation, updated plantings, new seating, and other site amenities.
The design team proposed using reclaimed granite from a local site for the paving, presenting three options that explore concrete with granite inlays, cobblestone-style patterns, and layouts emphasizing threshold areas.
The planting strategy draws from Salem’s urban landscape history while emphasizing native, seasonal vegetation that offers year-round interest.
Proposed lighting concepts and ideas for public art installations were also shared, supporting an evolving vision for a more welcoming and community-oriented public space.
We look forward to advancing the design and continuing to collaborate with local businesses, community members, and artists in shaping this important public space for the City of Salem.
