Museum L-A is dedicated to exploring the rich textile heritage of the twin towns of Lewiston and Auburn through research, community development, and display of historic artifacts. DesignLAB Architects and Landworks Studio have been asked to reconceive the abandoned Camden Yarn Mill as the new home of Musuem L-A. This site -- on the banks of the Androscoggin River -- is potent with opportunities to enhance the riverfront economically and ecologically. As part of the public realm along the river, the Camden Yarn Mill site will help connect pedestrian and bicycle paths over and along the river, as well as enhance linkage to the open space network that currently exists beyond the canal complex of Lewiston. Programmatically, the remodel of the mill and its landscape will offer to the museum a variety of event, performance, and display spaces.
