Designed for the in situ collection of stormwater and soil depths to sponsor lush rooftop planting and diverse habitats, a strategically located void space in the architecture of the garage below allows for a drift of birch trees to migrate through a layered system of vegetation, water infiltration zones, perforated metal bridges, wind screens, and benches. An office building in the SoNo redevelopment initiative along South Norwalk’s waterfront incorporates a series of integrated roof terraces that provide functional outdoor spaces for office tenants. On the sixth floor the largest terrace provides a range of social spaces while making connections between the specific amenities within the building, landscape phenomena and ecological performativity.
