The proposal to bring a new art gallery to South Boston was the focus of this strategic remodel of an existing industrial building. The intention is to tactically introduce aspects of landscape in this very harsh environment and to artfully link landscape experience to the larger creative agenda of the building itself. Our efforts centered on an inventive parking scenario, theatrical entry sequence and roof top garden. The site is currently 100% impervious asphalt devoid of plant material. Rather, our approach is to surgically insert intense moments of landscape that will play off the industrial imagery and provide initial context for the art experience.
