Landworks Studio collaborated with architects at VJAA to materialize a formal design concept into an environmentally animated construct called the ‘performative veil’. Set off from the façade, the materials and program of the building’s second skin transition according to their position on the veil and relative to other building program, patterns of fenestration, roof tops and solar orientation. Experientially, the veil emerges as solar and grow screens, storm water collection and reuse systems, private gardens, gathering spaces, dynamic civic spaces within the public realm. The design challenge was to evolve the veil into a visual and performative building icon, integrating comprehensive ecological functions with social and communal spaces at various levels of the building.
